Lanstelveen 4

• Until Sunday August 16th somewhere in the evening late afternoon

• Amstelveen, at Giel's place, the sidestreet with the white sign
• Some people probably won't mind being taxi for the day
• I'm conveniently reachable (10 minute walk) by public transport with tram 5
  • If you take tram 5 in the direction of Amstelveen, the tramstop is called 'Zonnestein'
  • Head left (eastbound) on the intersection into 'Straat van Messina'; call me at the end of the street at the school
  • During this Lanstelveen tram/subway 51 which usually stops there too IS NOT RUNNING due to construction
  • Bus 165 stops even closer to my place (stop 'Machineweg') but only runs once every 30 minutes and only between Amstelveen and Zuid. If you have a lot of stuff and can easily take the train to Station Zuid it will save you some lugging though. You can also change from the 5 to the 165 at station Zuid; the stops are adjacent.
  • Some people have been known to take the 300 from Schiphol to 'Oranjebaan' and walk from there. That's a 15 to 20 minute walk though.

• Lots of Team Fortress 2 (legaly, so buy & update)
• If enough people are interested, maybe Left4Dead (so be prepared to buy & update)
• Possibly an RTS (C&C3? RA3?), maybe as a tournament on Friday night
• Maybe some non-computer games to fight square-eye-syndrome

• Because your computer is powerful enough:
  • Minimum requirements: 1.7Ghz CPU, 512Mb RAM, DirectX 8
  • Recommended system: Pentium 4 3.0Ghz, 1Gb RAM, DirectX 9
  • Windows 7 (free), Windows Vista (b0rked), Windows XP, Windows 2000
  • A MacBook Pro or iMac is easily powerful enough; use Leopard's BootCamp to set it all up.
  • Or just come, and I'll help you set it up (I have a Windows 7 install DVD)
  • I've also gotten TF2 to work in VMWare and using Crossover Games (so on a Mac without BootCamp)
  • You can buy Team Fortress 2 for $20 or better yet The Orange Box for $30 online (at my place if you want)
• Because you don't need to be a Pro-Gamer to have fun in Team Fortress 2
  • Almost none of us will know the new maps and weapons; we haven't played in almost a year
  • It's a very simple game, and you'll learn very fast; it has an easy learning curve
  • We play in two teams anyway, and it's about the team winning, not about having the highest score
  • There are two classes who hardly ever have to actually hit anyone with a gun (Medic and Engineer)
  • There is one class that mostly sits and shoots; little movement (Sniper)
  • These is one class that only sneaks around and stabs people in the back (Dennis)

• Mousing-surface (table surfaces are not suitable)
• Power extension block (1 for each 2 players should do)

• Maybe a mat or aerobed to sleep on
• Cash for food (and maybe for the Lanstelveen-fund)

• I have 14 connections of 1 Gigabit on the NetGear switches
• I have WiFi (802.1g) downstairs (via Airport Express)
• We may want another Gigabit switch for downstairs if someone has one (fanless only)
• I have a single 1 Gigabit connection upstairs
• I have WiFi (802.1n) upstairs (via Airport Extreme)

• I have 1 seat *with computer* (iMac)
• I have 12 seats at the tables (3 tables with 4 seats each)
• I have 1 seat in the extension
• So downstairs a total of 14 seats; possibly more if we arrange an additional table
• We could possibly seat 6 players upstairs, but that would complicate the sleeping arrangements

• We'll be playing on the 'tf2.byss.net' server which should be is reachable from the internet
• Players registered with the server get precedence over non-registered players
• The server is password protected with the password 'mazzel'

  • During Lanstelveen, I'll be on Steam as user 'Gilimanjaro'

• The plugin we use to register users is currently broken due to the recent Classless update

• I'll be turning 33 at midnight between Saturday and Sunday; yes, it's my birthday this time :)
• Suggestions on what to arrange for Nadine are welcome (though she'll probably be having a Dance Dance Revolution weekend at Sherida's mostly)
